Fighting against all odds, Bindu Hare Krishna from Kerala has crafted success with 100% natural cosmetics
Small-scale businesses are the cornerstone for self-reliant India, a dream that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been enthusiastic about for the last few years. And, women-headed MSMEs (Micro Small and Medium Enterprises) assume great significance in India’s transition to a new era of self-reliance. Indeed, the need of the hour is to popularise eco and organic enterprises.
All these factors that define the very concept of new-age enterprises come in sync with Kerala-based Bindu Balachandran’s venture, Krishna’s Organic Herbal Products.
Popularly known as Bindu Hare Krishna, because of her undiluted passion towards Lord Krishna, this woman entrepreneur from Vanchiyoor near Thiruvananthapuram of Kerala has an intriguing story to tell. A woman who fought against many odds, Bindu derives immense strength from Lord Krishna.
“My lord is everything. He has been always with me in all difficult situations. And Lord Krishna is the real CEO of my company,” she says with a smile on her face.

Bindu had a worst past of mental setbacks and depression; however she overcame that with starting something of her own. To be precise, entrepreneurship was a solution to her most of the pressing problems.
Years back she had an experience of preparing herbal oil for her personal use. Later she transformed it into a small scale business, which eventually became an inspirational success story.
“My entrepreneurial journey was never a calculated one. I was an accidental entrepreneur. There was a time I felt loneliness at its peak. Then I had to find something for my self-satisfaction. Subsequently the spirit of entrepreneurship worked out. That was the turning point. And Krishna’s Organic Herbal Products is a result of that,” Bindu Hare Krishna tells The Education Post Online.
Personal attachment to entrepreneurship
As Bindu stepped into the world of organic herbal cosmetics, she found a huge relief for all her issues. When she got completely involved in entrepreneurial activities, there was no space to get depressed.
“I first ventured into egg-less cake making. Then, I have turned into organic herbal cosmetics as our markets are filled with chemical-based cosmetic products. Herbal hair oil was the first organic product that I made. Long back, I learnt the art of hair oil making from my husband; it was made up of 100 per cent natural ingredients and herbal plants. My husband was my first Guru” Bindu says.

Bindu had to go through a tough period in her life, slipped into an age of depression. She struggled with excessive hair fall and marks on her face. It was then she polished her skills in preparing herbal hair oil to rejuvenate herself. And that worked out well, according to Bindu.
It was the beginning. Bindu also used to give herbal oil to her friends. And she got puzzled, as the feedback from the friends was amazing. Eventually Bindu started to make more units of herbal oil and sell it to customers in her close circle. “I have made the oil with more than 30 herbal plants which include Krishna Thulsi (Ocimum Tenuiflorum), Aloe Vera, Hibiscus, and a lot more…”
As scores of women who have used Bindu’s products recommended them to their friends, the demand got increased.
The success of herbal oil inspired Bindu to study more about herbal cosmetic brands. As cosmetic products made out of chemicals have negative impact on the skin, Bindu realised that there are great possibilities for herbal products. She soon ventured into that market. But she made a thorough preparation before that, getting trained by Mumbai-based institutions to manufacture quality herbal cosmetic products.
Once Bindu got enough training and expertise in herbal cosmetics manufacturing, she started to prepare and sell products under the brand name Krishna’s. Her second product was Orange fairness oil, a product Bindu developed for her own purpose. Because of her stressful life she was affected with deep sun tan. She started her own studies and research in cosmetics and found out a remedy for her tan in the form of Orange fairness oil.
It was a huge hit in the market. After that there has been no turning back.
As Krishna’s Organic Products gained popularity, Bindu has taken the MSME licence, and started to make more herbal stuff. Before introducing a new product, Bindu would go for a deep study on all aspects of its manufacturing process.
“We are not using any Phthalate-based fragrances in our products. We only use essential oils. Even our lipsticks are made with FDA-certified lip safe pigments,” adds Bindu Hare Krishna.
This women entrepreneur completed many courses in cosmetics from India and abroad. “In this industry, being updated about the latest trends matters a lot. I have been trying to provide the best for my customers,” she says.
Bindu use the potential of social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp to sell her products. Bindu wants her pure products to be used by all for self-care and to develop an eco-friendly way of living. Her product line includes Krishna Bringa hair oil, Krishna Bringa shampoo, herbal soaps, fairness pack, Orange fairness oil, lipsticks, aloe vera gel, and a lot more.
